Dr. Neal Jackson, a Louisiana native, is Fellowship-trained and Board-Certified in Neurotology, the subspecialty dealing with hearing and balance disorders.
After earning a Medical Doctorate (MD) degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he served as the Student Body President, Dr. Jackson then completed a 5-year residency training in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at hospitals and clinics associated with Louisiana State University Health Science Center-New Orleans. He was then chosen to complete a 2-year Fellowship in Neurotology, Otology, and Skull Base Surgery at the prestigious Michigan Ear Institute, the largest neurotology practice in the country.
Dr. Jackson was recruited to Tulane University in 2018 to provide an expertise in ear and skull base surgery. In 2019, he also joined the staff of Children’s Hospital New Orleans, where he serves as the Director of the Cochlear Implant Program and Pediatric Neurotology services. Dr. Jackson started the Cochlear Implant Programs at Tulane University Medical Center in 2019 and at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in 2020. As a skull base surgeon, Dr. Jackson frequently works with neurosurgeons for the evaluation and management of skull base tumors and infections. He is also an active member of the Tulane University Center for Brain Health.
Dr. Jackson sees children and adults of all ages in his clinics for any ear-related issue, including hearing loss, chronic ear infections, cholesteatoma, skull base tumors such as acoustic neuroma, facial nerve weakness, vertigo, etc. For those patients who would benefit from surgery, Dr. Jackson can perform a wide range of ear surgeries including cochlear implantation, ear drum reconstruction surgery, ossicle reconstruction, cholesteatoma removal, stapes surgery, skull base tumor removal, etc.
As a faculty member of the Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Jackson has an active role in educating medical students and residents about care of the ear. He has also spoken at national meetings, published a textbook, and received awards for his research and clinical care. He has been selected by other doctors as a Top Doctor in New Orleans since 2021.
