Areas of Practice
Hearing Loss
The sense of hearing is one of our most valuable abilities. Hearing is important for learning at school/work, socializing with friends and family, and detecting alarms and other sounds that keep us safe. Unfortunately hearing can be damaged or lost at any point in the lifetime. Dr. Jackson is a specialist in all forms of hearing loss for patients of all ages.
Ear Infections
The ears are vulnerable to infection throughout the lifespan. Infections can cause damage to the delicate structures of the ear like the ear drum (tympanic membrane) and the bones of hearing (ossicles), which are the smallest bones of the body. Fortunately, these infections are usually treatable through non-surgical methods like antibiotics. In some situations, these infections do not go away despite the use of medicines, and surgical options are considered. The surgical options are very effective and typically include ear drum reconstruction (tympanoplasty), ossicular chain reconstruction, mastoidectomy, and/or ear tubes.
Growths inside the ear
Growths inside the ear can be very serious and typically require surgery for removal. The most common ones are cholesteatoma (skin cyst) and acoustic neuroma (a growth on the nerve for hearing and balance). Most growths of the ear are benign, which means they do not spread to distant parts of the body. But they continue to grow inside the ear and damage nearby structures leading to hearing loss, dizziness, facial nerve paralysis, ear infection, or brain infection. These growths can be removed through specialized surgical techniques.
